English I focuses on reading comprehension, writing skills, and vocabulary to provide experiences to enhance higher-level thinking skills. This course provides the student an opportunity to gain skills in the basic structural patterns of the English sentence, standard speech, verb usage, phrases, clauses, and vocabulary. The process of writing is emphasized with correct grammar mechanics and usage taught in the editing phase of the writing process. Students are given the opportunity to write for a variety of purposes. It involves the study of the story, the novel, informational reading, poetry, and drama. Many of the reading selections will provide the basis for students' writing. Grammar and literature are integrated with writing.

English II is a continuation, reinforcement, and introduction of new grammatical, composition, and literary concepts covered in English I. The grammar and literature continue to be integrated into writing as students plan, organize, create, and edit a wide variety of writing assignments including essays, open-ended response questions, daily assignments, major projects, and a research paper. Many of the reading selections will provide the basis for students' writing. Students will be state-tested on literature and grammar.

This class will provide the student with a detailed study of both plants and animals. Nine weeks will be spent learning about animals and will include dissections of various animals. Students will learn about animal body structure, systems, and behavior. The second nine weeks will be spent learning about plants. Students will learn about the types of plants, structures, tropisms, etc. Plant labs will provide a hands-on look at growth, life cycles, structures, etc.
Chemistry

The emphasis is on physics concepts and recognizing the application of physics in the real world. Some math is required, Major topics discussed are motion, optics, electricity and magnetism, nuclear reactions, and elementary particles.
